When Two Tribes...... This is about the meeting of two tribes. The Eurobasket Club and The Lithuanians. Eurobasket the 'establishment', and The Lithuanians, new members of a much bigger club. This is EUROPE! Yesterday we saw the long awaited matchup of EUROBASKET and The Lithuanian team in a first formally organised basketball match. Referees (Stergios and Nino) and a Scorekeeper (faithful Raymond) thanks to all. The atmosphere was ensured by massed Lithuanian supporters all ages, sizes and a plethora of flags. Fantastic effort ! You should be very proud. After the game the invitation to join an ad hoc picnic outside the hall under the trees was also much appreciated by all. The Eurobasket bench included Nikos' and Mario's families, and Diana's friend Armel (??). We should do this every time..... The Match Well, it mattered but Eurobasket were severely understrength, missing Pau, Danijel, ZZ, Minde-the-Lithuanian and Christoph. Those present included Alex, Luca, Martin, Mario, Dimitris, NikosL, Stephane and Pepe and our newest member (? still dont know his name EUROPARL) and of course Diana (DGT). No Excuses we all shout, as Eurobasket played badly, many turnovers, missed passes......The Lithuanians literally ran away with the game, fast break heaven.....I'm jealous.....9-25 at the end of the first period. After this Coach's instructions were to relax, hold the ball, shoot good shots....After that the gap didn't get much larger, better, but still.....at the end... From the other side, the Lithuanians ran the ball, fast break after fast break as Minde and his front court friends stole and ran...... In offence they played largely inside, Vitalys was there.....despite some big defence from Alex and Luca....I can't remember an outside shot from the Lithuanians, but they didn't need one.....The third period saw Eurobasket make a come back to about 18 points, but by this time the game had already been won. The final minutes saw The LIthuanains increase the winning margin to 33. AisteV (our pre-match go-between) added the female presence to the Lithuanian team, scored and then sat down again....For me it was a pleasure to watch Diana play 'basketball as it should be played' in amongst these 2 tribes. Comments on the bench agreed with me. Welcome, Diana! Result : Win for The Lithuanians. Score 78-45. Well played Lietuva!!!! There is already a re-match in the air..... When I left the aftermatch picnic, I saw 2 Police cars arriving.......crowd control? Naaah too late that was already assured......Well done to both Tribes! Coach .... 'Jackson' (What a compliment...but sorry no beard !!)
