To celebrate Kaunas and Esch, the second-largest cities in Lithuania and Luxembourg, and both European Capitals of Culture in 2022 (alongside Novi Sad, Serbia), the Lithuanian community in Luxembourg presents three photographic events at Annexe22.

Luxembourg continually welcomes new communities, who contribute to an ever-expanding ‘remix’ of society. The appeal of diversity is particularly evident in the humanist photography of Artūras Morozovas* and Tadas Kazakevičius**, the followers of the famous photographer Antanas Sutkus. The two talented Lithuanian photographers will present two exhibitions, devoted to Esch-Alzette and Kaunas, respectively.

On 16 February, the two photographers conducted a first online workshop (in Lithuanian language) and launched the humanist photography competition ‘Luxembourg Horizons’, open to Lithuanians, their family members and friends from Luxembourg and the Greater Region. An international jury selected the best 22 photographs, which will be printed and shown in Annexe22 from 3 to 10 April 2021 as part of a first exhibition.

On 5 May, the two photographers will conduct a second, free online workshop on humanist photography open to professionals and amateurs. The workshop will be held in English and translated into French. The most interesting photographs resulting from the event will be selected and printed as postcards.

From 19 to 26 June, A. Morozovas and T. Kazakevičius will stage the second exhibition of humanist photography, as part of which visitors will be encouraged to send one of the postcards from Luxembourg to people in need of support – particularly in this difficult time.

This project is partially supported by the Ministry of Culture of Luxembourg and Esch2020.

* Photojournalist and war photographer Artūras Morozovas is the recipient of the 2016 Award of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association. He is one of the ambassadors of Kaunas 2022, European Capital of Culture.

** Photographer Tadas Kazakevičius won third prize in the 2020 World Press Photo Competition in the Portraits and Stories categories.
